19-year-old sentenced in aggravated assault of Somerset County store employee

SOMERVILLE, NJ (Somerset County) – A 19-year-old man has been sentenced for assaulting an employee at a Somerset County business, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

Yahmir Brown of Franklin Township was sentenced on July 1 by the Honorable Peter J. Tober, P.J.Cr. to a term of five years in New Jersey State Prison, 85% of which is to be served without eligibility for parole, on the charge of second-degree aggravated assault, McDonald said.

Following a week-long trial, a Somerset County jury returned a guilty verdict on the charge on May 10, McDonald said.

Brown was charged, along with a juvenile co-defendant, with assaulting the employee of a local business the night before Thanksgiving in 2022, McDonald said.

The victim sustained multiple facial fractures because of the incident, McDonald said.

The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Franklin Township Police Department.

During the trial, the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Rory A. Eaton, with the assistance of Litigation Paralegal Maria Ducca.
