
2 drivers extricated after head-on crash on Route 31 in Hunterdon County
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A woman and a man were injured and had to be extricated from their vehicles following a head-on crash on Route 31 in Hunterdon County Tuesday morning, according to police.
The crash occurred on January 21, at approximately 11:53 a.m., near 361 Route 31 in Raritan Township.
Officers arrived on the scene and immediately attended to the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the crash, a Ford F-250 and a Jeep Liberty. The driver of the Jeep, a 22-year-old woman from Washington, was trapped in her vehicle and suffered severe head and neck injuries.
The driver of the Ford, a 29-year-old man from Somerville, was also trapped in his vehicle and complained of chest pain.
Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by fire and rescue squads.
The driver of the Ford was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center, while the driver of the Jeep, due to the severity of her injuries, was flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
According to eyewitnesses, it appeared that the Ford F-250, traveling northbound, veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the Jeep Liberty, police said.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Fatal Accident Collision Team responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The Raritan Township Police Department, along with the Prosecutor’s Office, will investigate the exact cause(s) of the crash.
In addition to the Prosecutor’s Office, responders at the scene included the Raritan Township Fire Department, Rescue Squad, Readington Township Police Department, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and New Jersey State Police.
