2 people injured after multi-vehicle crash involving tractor-trailer, cars on I-78 in Hunterdon County

LEBANON BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Two people were injured after a crash involving a tractor-trailer and two cars on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County Wednesday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Charles Marchan.

The crash happened at around 9:03 a.m. on I-78 westbound at milepost 20.6 in Lebanon Borough, Marchan said.

A preliminary investigation, a tractor-trailer was parked and unoccupied on the right shoulder with the driver, Robert De La Cruz Alejo, 30, of Elizabeth standing in front of the tractor-trailer, Marchan said.

Jennifer Friedel, 60, of Northampton, PA, was operating a Subaru westbound when the vehicle entered the right shoulder and struck the left rear of the trailer, causing the Subaru to rotate and strike a Volkswagen passenger car traveling in the right lane, Marchan said.

As a result of the collision, the tractor-trailer moved forward and struck Alejo, Marchan said.

Friedel suffered serious injuries and Alejo suffered minor injuries, Marchan said.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was available, Marchan said.
