$3.2 million in ecstasy seized at Hunterdon County truck stop; California man arrested

HAMPTON BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – An investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Narcotics Task Force led to the arrest of a California man for possession of ecstasy with intent to distribute, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson.

Following approximately a monthlong investigation, Ranjeet Singh, 29, of Bakersfield, CA, was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 10. The arrest took place at the Pilot Truck Stop in Hampton Borough, where Singh was allegedly found in possession of 50 kilograms of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy or molly in its crystal form. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around $3.2 million, Robeson said.

Singh was taken into custody without incident and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. The New Jersey State Police assisted in the arrest, Robeson said.

After his first appearance, Singh was released with conditions, Robeson said.

Possession of MDMA in a quantity of five ounces or more, including any adulterants or dilutants, is classified as a first-degree crime, which may lead to severe penalties, including a prison term of 10 to 20 years and a fine not exceeding $200,000.
