3.8 magnitude aftershock hits New Jersey

UPDATE: The magnitude was downgraded to a 3.8 from a 4.0, according to the USGS.

NEW JERSEY – A 3.8 magnitude earthquake rattled New Jersey Friday, according to the USGS.

The 3.8 magnitude quake, which occurred about 5:59 p.m., was centered about 4 miles SW of Gladstone in Somerset County and had a depth of 9.4 kilometers.

A 4.8 magnitude quake, which occurred about 10:23 a.m., was centered about 4 miles N of Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County and had a depth of 4.7 kilometers, according to USGS.

There were no initial reports of injuries or damages to structures in the area.
