Sussex County man charged with drug, weapon offenses after traffic stop
WAYNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Passaic County) — A 56-year-old Andover man was charged with multiple drug and weapons offenses following a late-night traffic stop on Route 23 North in Wayne Township, police said.
According to police, an officer conducted a stop on a 2007 Honda Pilot on June 22, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., after observing the vehicle operating with a headlight out and a smashed windshield. The vehicle was pulled over in the lot of Wawa.
While speaking with the driver, later identified as Scott A. Nieuzytek, the officer noticed a crack pipe with burn marks and a prescription bottle containing a white, powdery substance consistent with illegal narcotics. Police say Nieuzytek was placed under arrest at the scene.
A search of his person uncovered a homemade knife, and a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a metal pipe with a knife attached to the end, a pickaxe, and additional drug paraphernalia, according to authorities. Police also allege that Nieuzytek used explicit language referencing race, sexuality, and the officers’ families throughout the encounter.
Nieuzytek was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon. He was transported to a hospital for a pre-existing injury, where he remained under guard until a remote detention hearing was held. He was later released from custody while still hospitalized.
