Phillipsburg shooting suspect arrested in Pennsylvania, faces multiple charges
PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — A Phillipsburg man wanted in connection with a shooting that damaged a residence early Sunday morning was arrested later that day in Pennsylvania, authorities said.
According to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, officers responded to the 400 block of Anderson Street around 3:36 a.m. on Aug. 3 after receiving a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered that several shots had been fired at a residence, with at least one round penetrating through a window. No injuries were reported.
Video surveillance helped identify the alleged shooter as Andrew R. Weaver, 20, who was subsequently entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as a wanted person.
Later that day, around 3:00 p.m., the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Weaver during a motor vehicle stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle. A search of the car revealed a loaded Glock 9mm handgun, officials said.
Weaver was taken into custody, processed, and lodged at the Lehigh County Prison, where he awaits extradition to New Jersey.
Weaver was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, specifically discharging a firearm into a residence; aggravated assault, by firing into an occupied home; unlawful possession of a weapon, for possessing a handgun without a permit; and criminal mischief, for causing property damage by discharging a firearm into the residence.
All charges, except criminal mischief, are second-degree crimes, each carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in New Jersey State Prison. Criminal mischief is a third-degree crime, punishable by up to 5 years.
The investigation was conducted by the Phillipsburg Police Department and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from the New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit, NJSP Strategic Investigations Unit, the Warren County Regional Crime Scene Team, the Warren County Tactical Response Team, the Belvidere Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police Bethlehem Barracks.
