Hunterdon County honors senior center volunteers at annual appreciation brunch

FRENCHTOWN BOROUGH, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County officials celebrated the contributions of senior center volunteers during the county’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch, held Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Razberry’s Banquet Venue.

Deputy Director Shaun C. Van Doren, joined by Commissioner Susan J. Soloway and County Clerk Mary Melfi, delivered remarks to dozens of volunteers at the event hosted by the Hunterdon County Department of Human Services.

“Hunterdon County is incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated and selfless group of volunteers supporting our Senior Center programs,” Van Doren said. “Your time, energy, and compassion directly improve the quality of life for our senior residents. On behalf of the entire Board, thank you for the vital role you play in making Hunterdon County a caring and connected community.”

The county recognized the efforts of 114 volunteers who serve in a range of roles, including drivers, Mr. Fixit volunteers, art committee members, SHIP/Medicare counselors, fitness instructors, social and recreational program leaders, and general volunteers.

Collectively, volunteers contribute more than 1,000 hours of service each quarter, providing assistance such as transporting seniors to appointments, leading fitness classes, and offering Medicare counseling.

The appreciation brunch gave county leaders and Human Services staff the chance to personally thank the volunteers and highlight their impact on older adults and residents in need across the county.
