Red Cross urges New Jersey donors to give blood in November as fall turnout drops
NEW JERSEY — The American Red Cross is urging New Jersey residents to “Level Up” their impact by donating blood or platelets this November, as the organization faces a seasonal drop in donor turnout during one of the most critical times of the year.
The final two months of the year typically bring packed schedules filled with holiday events and travel, making it harder for many regular donors to keep appointments. The Red Cross is calling for donors of all blood types — especially type O negative, O positive and B negative, as well as platelet donors — to schedule appointments as soon as possible.
To help boost participation, the Red Cross is partnering with Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. to celebrate the 45th anniversary of PAC-MAN™, the iconic video game character. Anyone who gives blood between Nov. 17 and Dec. 7, 2025, will receive an exclusive pair of Red Cross x PAC-MAN socks, while supplies last. Those who donate blood or platelets during the same period can also receive a limited-edition Red Cross x PAC-MAN GASHAPON® collectible.
Appointments can be made at RedCrossBlood.org, through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
The Red Cross says donor turnout has dropped this fall at a time when maintaining a strong blood supply is essential for patients throughout the holiday season. To support donor health education, all successful November donations will include free A1C testing, which screens for prediabetes and diabetes. The test is provided once in a 12-month period, and donors should not fast before giving blood.
