Hunterdon County Commissioner Soloway visits High Bridge Elementary to teach students about local government
HIGH BRIDGE BOROUGH, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Susan Soloway recently visited High Bridge Elementary School to speak with fourth-grade students about county government and public services.
Soloway met with the combined classes of Ms. Hughes and Mrs. Gomez, marking her fourth consecutive year visiting the school.
“It is always a pleasure to spend time with students and talk about how local government serves our communities,” said Commissioner Soloway. “Their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions make these visits especially meaningful. It is important to introduce students to these topics early, as experiences like this help build the next generation of leaders.”
During the visit, Soloway discussed the role of the Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners and how decisions made at the county level impact various departments and services.
She highlighted programs offered through the Hunterdon County Library System and recreational opportunities available through the county’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Students asked a range of questions about county operations, including topics such as open space, farmland preservation and how decisions are made about locating new parks. Others inquired about community programs, including events at the Hunterdon County Senior Center.
Soloway encouraged students to stay engaged and informed about their communities, emphasizing the importance of civic participation and volunteerism.
She also thanked the school’s teachers and staff for the opportunity to speak with students and for their efforts to educate them about local government.
