Gottheimer questions intelligence officials on Iran, domestic threats at hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer questioned top intelligence officials Thursday on national security concerns during a congressional hearing on global threats.

Gottheimer, a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, participated in the panel’s 2026 Annual Worldwide Threats Assessment hearing, raising issues related to Iran, domestic security, the global economy and antisemitism.

During the hearing, Gottheimer pressed officials on U.S. preparedness related to escalating tensions with Iran, including concerns about potential disruptions to global supply chains and energy markets.

“Americans deserve clear answers and a comprehensive strategy to keep our country safe — both at home and abroad,” said Congressman Gottheimer (NJ-5). “We must ensure our intelligence community is fully equipped, objective, and prepared to meet the threats we face today.”

He also asked intelligence leaders about Iran’s military capabilities and whether the country continues to pursue nuclear weapons, as well as steps being taken to counter foreign influence operations.

Gottheimer raised concerns about domestic security, noting what he described as an elevated threat environment in the United States and urging agencies to outline measures to prevent attacks.

The congressman also addressed personnel issues within the intelligence community, emphasizing the importance of objective and fact-based analysis in national security decision-making.

In addition, Gottheimer highlighted concerns about rising antisemitism nationwide, referencing recent incidents and asking officials about efforts to protect religious communities and houses of worship.
