1 resident injured, cat dies in Morris County house fire
PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. (Morris County) — Police and fire crews responded late Saturday to a house fire in Parsippany that displaced two families, sent one person to the hospital and resulted in the death of a cat.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 11:25 p.m. on April 18 to a two-family residence at 760 Edwards Road on a report of a structure fire, according to police.
Upon arrival, officers observed the front of the home fully engulfed in flames and made contact with residents from the front unit, who had safely exited. Police were then informed that a man from the rear unit remained inside the home. Officers located the individual and safely escorted him out.
Firefighters from multiple departments, including Parsippany Fire District 5, Rainbow Lakes, Lake Hiawatha and Parsippany-Troy Hills fire districts, responded and extinguished the fire with assistance from Boonton and Pine Brook fire departments.
Emergency medical personnel from Par-Troy EMS, Parsippany Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Rockaway Neck Volunteer First Aid Squad and Whippany EMS evaluated residents at the scene. One resident was transported to St. Clare’s Hospital for further evaluation.
After the fire was extinguished, Parsippany Animal Control removed a deceased cat from the home.
The American Red Cross assisted both families — a total of nine people — with temporary lodging, and Parsippany Rescue and Recovery secured the residence.
No first responders were injured, police said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Parsippany Police Department at 973-263-4300.
