Hunterdon County launches 2026 veterans headstone cleaning events; volunteers invited

HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — Hunterdon County officials are inviting residents to take part in a series of volunteer events this year aimed at honoring veterans by cleaning and restoring their headstones.

Commissioners Susan J. Soloway and Jeff Kuhl, co-liaisons to the county’s Division of Veterans Affairs, announced the 2026 Veterans Headstone Cleaning Program, which will take place at cemeteries across the county.

The program offers residents of all ages an opportunity to help preserve veterans’ gravesites while paying tribute to their service.

“Caring for the headstones of our veterans is a simple but powerful way to show respect and gratitude for their service,” said Commissioner Soloway. “These events bring our community together to ensure their legacy is honored and remembered.”

Commissioner Kuhl added, “This program continues to grow because of the strong support from our residents. It is a hands-on way to give back, and each volunteer plays an important role in recognizing the men and women who served our country.”

All events are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on the following dates:

  • Saturday, May 2 — Prospect Hill Cemetery, 69 Capner St., Flemington (rain date May 3)
