New Jersey launches redesigned NJ CARES website to expand addiction resources
TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey officials have launched a redesigned NJ CARES website aimed at improving public access to information and resources related to substance use and addiction.
Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Office of Alternative and Community Responses announced the update, saying the new platform offers easier navigation, interactive data tools and expanded access to treatment and recovery services.
“Launching the redesigned NJ CARES website reflects our commitment to meeting people where they are – with clear, accessible information and real support for families and communities navigating the challenges of substance misuse,” said Attorney General Davenport. “This platform makes it easier for residents to understand how the addiction crisis is affecting their communities and, more importantly, how to find help when they need it.”
The updated site includes interactive dashboards with state and county-level data, along with educational materials and a directory of Project Medicine Drop locations where residents can safely dispose of unused or expired medications.
Officials said the redesign is intended to support not only individuals and families, but also first responders, researchers and community organizations working to address substance misuse.
The launch comes ahead of National Drug Take Back Day, a biannual initiative that provides a safe and anonymous way for the public to dispose of unused prescription medications, including opioids.
“Together, through education, awareness, and community partnership, we can save lives and strengthen the health and safety of New Jersey families. The redesigned NJ CARES website is a step forward toward that goal,” said Tiffany Wilson, Director of the Office of Alternative and Community Responses. “As we mark National Drug Take Back Day, it’s important to remember that prevention can begin at home. Safely disposing of unused or expired medications is a simple but critical step in reducing the risk of misuse and addiction.”
NJ CARES, established in 2018, coordinates addiction response efforts within the Department of Law and Public Safety and works with service providers and law enforcement to connect individuals with treatment and recovery programs.
Among the initiatives supported by NJ CARES is Operation Helping Hand, which pairs law enforcement with peer recovery coaches to reach individuals impacted by substance use and connect them with care.
