New Jersey seeks poll workers ahead of June 2 primary election
TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey election officials are encouraging residents to sign up as poll workers ahead of the June 2 primary election, offering paid opportunities to assist voters at polling locations across the state.
The New Jersey Division of Elections announced Wednesday it is partnering with county election offices to recruit poll workers for both Primary Election Day and the state’s early voting period.
Poll workers will earn $300 for working on Primary Election Day and $21.43 per hour for early voting shifts, according to the state.
“Becoming a poll worker is one of the best ways to get engaged with our democracy,” said Lt. Gov. Dr. Dale G. Caldwell, who serves as New Jersey’s chief election official in his role as secretary of state. “As we look ahead to the 2026 Primary and General Elections, New Jersey citizens 16 and older have a meaningful opportunity to engage civically and help neighbors vote in free and fair elections as poll workers this year and beyond.”
Donna Barber, director of the New Jersey Division of Elections, said counties throughout the state are actively seeking residents to help staff polling places.
“Elections across New Jersey rely on thousands of dedicated residents who staff polling locations, and counties throughout the state are actively recruiting poll workers ahead of the June 2 Primary Election,” Barber said. “It’s a great way to earn money while supporting your community.”
According to the Division of Elections, applicants must be U.S. citizens, New Jersey residents and registered voters in the county where they reside. Residents age 16 and older are eligible to serve, although those under 18 do not need to be registered to vote.
Candidates running in the election are not eligible to work as poll workers.
Residents interested in serving can apply online through PollWorker.NJ.Gov. Additional election information is available at Vote.NJ.Gov or by calling the state’s voter information hotline at 1-877-NJ-VOTER.
