Hunterdon County to host June 14 parade celebrating America’s 250th anniversary
FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County will host a patriotic parade Sunday, June 14, in Flemington to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and highlight the county’s Revolutionary War history.
The Hunterdon County 250th Parade will begin at 2 p.m. along Main Street. The event will feature veterans organizations, first responders, marching bands, civic groups, historical organizations, scouting groups, community organizations and Revolutionary War reenactors.
Commissioner Shaun Van Doren, liaison to the Hunterdon County 250th Committee, said the parade will give residents an opportunity to gather for a historic community celebration.
“As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, this parade provides an opportunity for residents of all ages to come together and celebrate the ideals, sacrifices, and achievements that have shaped our country,” said Commissioner Van Doren. “Hunterdon County has a rich Revolutionary War history, and this event will showcase both our heritage and the strong sense of community that continues to define our county today.”
The parade will include participants from across Hunterdon County, including historical reenactors portraying Revolutionary War soldiers and Gen. George Washington. Local marching bands, veterans groups, first responders and community organizations also are expected to take part.
Held on Flag Day, the parade is one of Hunterdon County’s signature America 250 events. County officials said the celebration is designed to educate residents about local history while commemorating the nation’s semiquincentennial.
“The 250th anniversary is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history and the values that continue to guide us,” Van Doren said. “We encourage residents to bring their families, enjoy the festivities, and join us in recognizing this important moment in our country’s story.”
The parade is being organized through a partnership between Hunterdon County, the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce and the Hunterdon 300th Committee. County officials thanked ShopRite of Hunterdon County for sponsoring the event, as well as other sponsors, volunteers, participating organizations and community partners.
Residents are encouraged to arrive early and bring their families. The parade will be held rain or shine, but county officials said updates will be provided in the event of severe weather.
