USPS to close for Independence Day; regular service resumes July 6
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Postal Service facilities will be closed Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
All Post Office retail locations will be closed, and there will be no regular mail delivery on the holiday. Regular retail services and mail delivery will resume Monday, July 6.
Post offices will remain open and mail delivery will operate on its normal schedule Friday, July 3.
Although retail locations will be closed on Independence Day, customers can continue to access many postal services online at usps.com, including ordering stamps and free USPS shipping boxes, placing mail on hold, submitting a change of address, renting or renewing a post office box, and using Click-N-Ship to print prepaid shipping labels.
The Postal Service said many locations also offer self-service kiosks, some of which are available 24 hours a day. The kiosks allow customers to purchase stamps, print postage for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and international shipments, weigh and mail packages, and track shipments.
Some modernized post office locations also feature Rapid Dropoff Stations for customers who have already printed shipping labels, QR code label printing and USPS Smart Lockers for package pickup and drop-off.
The Postal Service also announced it will mark the nation’s 250th anniversary with special initiatives at select post offices, patriotic-themed merchandise and limited-edition Priority Mail envelopes and boxes, which are expected to become available in early July.
