SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. — The Sussex County Library System is partnering once again with Braen Stone and the Sussex County Miners to bring back its Reading Rocks program, encouraging children to explore books about earth science, mining and geology throughout August.
The free program is open to children ages 2 to 12 and runs from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31 at all Sussex County Library System branches.
To kick off the program, families are invited to Skylands Stadium in Augusta on Friday, July 31, for a special event featuring presentations by Eyes of the Wild at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The event will also include ice cream and baseball-themed activities.
Beginning Aug. 1, participants can register at any SCLS branch or download a registration form and reading log from the library system’s website.
Children who read five books from the program’s Braen-Book Reading Lists and return their completed reading log and completion form to any SCLS branch by Monday, Aug. 31, will receive a Reading Rocks prize box. Prize boxes will be distributed in September.
Library officials said the program is designed to encourage young readers while introducing them to topics related to earth science, geology and mining.
