New Jersey approves Revolutionary War license plate honoring nation’s 250th anniversary
NEW JERSEY — Legislation creating a special license plate commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution has been signed into law, according to state Sen. Jim Holzapfel.
The legislation, A-2391/S-149, directs the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, in consultation with state historical officials, to issue the commemorative 250th Anniversary Revolutionary War license plates.
“Two-hundred and fifty years ago, the fight for American independence ran directly through New Jersey and this year represents a unique opportunity to showcase the spirit of American exceptionalism that was forged here at the crossroads of the American Revolution,” said Sen. Holzapfel. “This commemorative license plate will not only honor our Revolutionary heritage, but it will also help preserve the historic sites and treasures that tell the story of our nation’s founding for generations to come.”
In addition to regular motor vehicle registration fees, motorists who obtain the specialty plate will pay a $50 application fee and a $10 annual renewal fee.
After costs associated with implementing the license plate program are deducted, money collected through the fees will be deposited into the 250th Anniversary Revolutionary War License Plate Fund.
