Firefighters extinguish fire in tractor portion of tractor-trailer on I-78 in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Firefighters extinguished a fire in the tractor portion of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 78 in Clinton Township last week, preventing the flames from spreading to the trailer and its contents.

New Jersey State Police said troopers responded at 6:01 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to the vehicle fire on I-78 east at milepost 17.6.

According to the Township of Clinton Division of Fire, crews contained the fire to the tractor, preventing it from spreading to the trailer and its contents.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, controlled ruptured tanks and spilled fluids and established the water supply needed to bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported at the scene, according to state police.

I-78 east was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene, with traffic diversions in place throughout the area.

The Township of Clinton Division of Fire thanked Quakertown Fire Company, South Branch Emergency Services, New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, dispatchers and volunteers who assisted with the response.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, and no additional information was available, state police said.
