Warren County honors first responders for dedication, service to communities
WARREN COUNTY, N.J. — The Warren County Board of County Commissioners recognized National First Responders Day on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with an annual proclamation honoring the courage, dedication and sacrifices of emergency personnel who serve communities throughout the county.
The proclamation, presented recently to local first responders, encourages residents to recognize the contributions of firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services personnel, 911 dispatchers and other emergency responders who work to protect public safety.
“As someone who lived in a family of first responders, their dedication means you are missing a lot of family events. This is one of our most treasured proclamation and we can’t thank you enough,” said Warren County Commissioner Director Lori Ciesla.
The proclamation emphasizes that the safety and well-being of Warren County communities depend on the commitment of emergency personnel who respond to accidents, fires, medical emergencies and other critical situations. County officials also recognized the personal sacrifices first responders make, including time spent away from their families while serving the public.
Among those receiving the proclamation was Oxford EMS Capt. Peggy Hissim, who has served as a first responder for 49 years. Hissim reflected on her decades of service and the importance of helping others during times of need.
“All my life, I’ve loved helping people and making sure their needs are met,” Hissim said.
County officials said the proclamation serves as an opportunity to recognize the resilience and commitment of first responders, whose work provides essential support to residents during emergencies. The recognition also highlights the contributions of emergency personnel who frequently place themselves in challenging and dangerous situations to assist others.
National First Responders Day is observed annually on Oct. 28 to honor the men and women who serve on the front lines of emergencies across the country.
The Warren County commissioners encouraged residents to take time to thank local first responders for their service and acknowledge the important role they play in protecting the county’s communities.
