Crash leads to firearms arrest in Morris County

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man was arrested Tuesday after a three-vehicle crash led to the discovery of a firearm in Denville Township, according to police.

The crash happened on Feb. 7 on Route 46 eastbound, police said.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that one of the involved drivers, who was later identified as Jason Mal, 45, of Rockaway Township, was allegedly in possession of a firearm, police said.

It was later revealed that Mal is classified as a certain person under New Jersey law and is prohibited from possessing or owning any firearm, police said.

Mal was arrested and charged with certain persons not to have weapons and transporting weapons. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
