Area 57 drone and robotics event set for April 25 at Warren Tech

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A day of drones, robotics and hands-on activities is planned later this month at Warren County Technical School.

The “Area 57: Flying Objects & Other Fun” event will take place April 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school, located at 1500 Route 57. Admission is free, with donations accepted.

The event will feature a variety of interactive and educational attractions, including a robot combat competition, live drone demonstrations and opportunities for attendees to learn about emerging technologies.

Organizers said the robot competition will include 1-pound plastic antweight and 3-pound beetleweight robots competing in matches throughout the day.

Visitors will also be able to meet a robotic “dog,” watch agricultural drone demonstrations and learn about a new counter-unmanned aircraft systems program expected to launch in September.

For younger attendees, a children’s activity area will offer interactive experiences, including the chance to build gliders through a mobile lab hosted by the Da Vinci Science Center. Space for that activity is limited and requires advance registration.

Local robotics teams will also showcase their work, and attendees will have the opportunity to explore displays featuring drones and robots used in competitions such as SkillsUSA.

Organizers said the event is designed to engage the community and provide insight into the growing fields of drone technology and robotics while offering activities for all ages.
