Armed robbery suspects in custody after I-78 chase from Essex to Hunterdon counties: Police

TEWKSBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Six armed robbery suspects are in custody after leading police on an I-78 chase from Essex to Hunterdon County, according to state police.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, at around 9:05 a.m., the Newark Police Department was in pursuit of a vehicle westbound on Interstate 78, state police said.

Then in the area of I-78 east at milepost 25.4 in Tewksbury Township, the vehicle came to a stop and six suspects fled the scene on foot, state police said.

After a brief search, with the assistance of our K-9 and Aviation unit, all suspects were apprehended, and a firearm was recovered, state police said.

State police did not release any information about the robbery nor did they identify the six suspects.

Troopers from Troop “B” Somerville Station, Perryville Station, Newark Police Department, Tewksbury Township Police Department, and the Readington Township Police Department all assisted in collectively apprehending the suspects, state police said.
