Assemblywoman Dunn awards medals to veterans, highlights outreach at County College of Morris
RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Assemblywoman Aura Dunn awarded two dozen state service medals to veterans and helped connect residents with resources provided by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs during an event Thursday at the County College of Morris.
“I look at this event as a small token of gratitude for the immense sacrifice and service of our veterans. It’s about ensuring we are supporting our heroes and their families who call New Jersey home and building bridges between veterans and available benefits,” Dunn (R-Morris) said. “In Trenton, I will always stand with our veterans—working across the aisle to strengthen benefits, expand access to services, and ensure DMAVA has the resources it needs.”
Dunn, a member of the New Jersey Military Skills Council, sponsors the “Welcome Home Veterans Act,” which recognizes the challenges veterans face and seeks to make New Jersey more military-friendly. The first bill (A4733/S3595) under the act would require the Motor Vehicle Commission to provide information on veteran benefits when issuing or renewing driver’s licenses and identification cards that include a veteran designation.
“There are no words, no medals, and no ceremony that will ever be enough to repay what veterans have given to this nation,” Dunn said. “I am the daughter of a Vietnam veteran. My father fought at Khe Sanh and his stories instilled in me a lifelong appreciation for those who wear the uniform. And now, with my son recently entering the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy that commitment is even closer to home.”
The event was sponsored by Dunn with support from DMAVA’s veterans outreach campaign and the Veterans Resource Center at the college.
