AT&T will give $5 credit to customers affected by service outage

AT&t customers affected by last week’s cellphone network outage that left many without service for hours will be given a $5 credit, according to AT&T.

“We apologize for Thursday’s network outage. We recognize the frustration this outage has caused and know we let many of our customers down. We understand this may have impacted their ability to connect with family, friends, and others. Small business owners may have been impacted, potentially disrupting an essential way they connect with customers,” the company said on their website.

The company said on its website that customers will get the $5 credit on their account within two billing cycles. The credit does not apply to AT&T Business, prepaid service or Cricket. Prepaid customers will have options available to them if they were impacted.

“Our initial review of the cause of Thursday’s outage indicates it was due to the application and execution of an incorrect process used while working to expand our network. We are investing billions to grow our network and deliver an even more exceptional customer experience. This is both a point of pride and a challenge that always requires care and focus,” the CEO of AT&T, John T. Stankey, wrote in a letter Sunday.

The outage began in the early hours on Thursday, and about three-quarters of our customers were able to access our network as they started their days around 5:00 a.m. CT, the company said.

“We prioritized FirstNet service restoration, in line with our commitment to our nation’s first responders. The remaining customers were reconnected throughout the morning. Teams worked hard to successfully normalize the network by around noon CT,” Mr. Stankey wrote in his letter.
