Budd Lake Bagel & Deli II reopens after damage from September car crash
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A bagel shop closed since September when an alleged drunken driver crashed through the business has reopened.
Budd Lake Bagel and Deli II reopened at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, according to a post on the Budd Lake Bagel & Deli’s Facebook page.
On September 11, at 9:51 p.m., police responded to Budd Lake Bagel & Deli II, located at 333 Mountain Avenue, for a report of a vehicle that went through the building, police said.
A police investigation revealed that a 2022 Jeep driven by Aleksandr Rabinovich, 32, of Franklin Borough was traveling east on Route 57 when he reportedly swerved to avoid a deer, closed his eyes and ended up inside the business, police said.
The officer allegedly detected the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Rabinovich, police said.
The crash caused significant damage and the Hackettstown Construction Official deemed the building unsafe. The business was then closed, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said.
Rabinovich was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath test, and reckless driving. He was released pending a court appearance.
