Bye bye winter: Sussex County groundhog predicts an early spring

WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Sussex County’s resident groundhog Stonewall Jackson emerged from his winter hideaway Friday to predict what the next six weeks have in store.

Stonewall, based at the Space Farms Zoo & Museum, did not see his shadow and predicts an early spring.

Several other groundhogs from around the region also ventured outside to search for their shadows and here are the results:

  • Lady Edwina of Essex County, New Jersey predicted an early spring.
  • Punxsutawney Phil from Pennsylvania predicted an early spring.
  • Staten Island Chuck from New York predicted an early spring.
  • Holtsville Hal from Long Island, New York predicted an early spring.
  • Malverne Mel from Long Island, New York predicted an early spring.
