Celebrate Older Americans Month at Sussex County Library System

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – As the lifelong meeting place of people and ideas, the Sussex County Library System (SCLS) supports older community members during May’s Older Americans Month and throughout the year.

SCLS welcomes older adults to partake in an array of enriching programs, events, services, and materials.

Events in May include:

Learn the Library Workshop: Computer Basics at Main Library
Date & Time: May 10, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and May 15, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Location: Main Library, 125 Morris Turnpike in Frankford
Learn the basics of using email and navigating the online world.

Wellness Program for Seniors at Dennis Branch
Date & Time: Fridays beginning May 17, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Location: Dennis Branch, 101 Main Street in Newton
Adults ages 55 and up are invited to lunch and learn with the Center for Prevention. In this six-week series, learn to make healthy lifestyle choices to live your best life in your golden years.

Navigating Healthcare Costs at Dennis Branch
Date & Time: May 21, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Dennis Branch, 101 Main Street in Newton
Join the Division of Senior Services to learn about available healthcare programs and how to qualify including Affordable Care Act; Medicare Parts A & B; NJ Family Care; Pharmaceutical Assistance; State Health Insurance; and Veteran’s Benefits.

Legal Services of Northwest NJ Presents: Power of Attorney, Wills & Testaments, & More via Zoom
Date & Time: May 29, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Location: Virtual
Join Legal Services of Northwest New Jersey (LSNWNJ) for a brief overview of the three primary life planning documents: Durable Power of Attorney, Advanced Health Care Directive (aka Living Will), and Last Will and Testament.

Additionally, SCLS offers an array of ongoing programs to foster connection, growth, and well-being for adults. From personalized tech help through Book a Librarian to social gatherings like Needlework Clubs and Book Clubs, there’s something for everyone. Engage your mind and body with activities such as Mahjong, Yoga, Meditation, Crafts, Watercolor Painting, and much more.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher.
