Centenary University names alumnus Pete Vincent as new athletics director

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Centenary University has appointed Pete Vincent, a 2007 graduate and former Cyclone men’s basketball player, as its new director of athletics, marking a homecoming for the Hackettstown resident and longtime collegiate athletics administrator.

A native of Jersey City, Vincent returns to his alma mater with more than a decade of experience in athletics administration, coaching, and youth sports leadership. Since 2011, he has served in a variety of roles at New Jersey City University (NJCU), most recently as assistant director of athletics.

“At Centenary, we have been steadily growing our NCAA DIII athletic programs and Cyclone student-athletes are achieving extraordinary success in the Atlantic East Conference,” said Vice President for Campus Life and Dean of Students Kerry Mullins. “Now, with Pete Vincent at the helm, the Cyclones are poised to soar to new heights.”

Vincent played three years for the Centenary men’s basketball team after redshirting and serving as a student-assistant coach his freshman year. He won the Cyclone Award each year, an honor recognizing commitment, sportsmanship, and leadership.

During his 14 years at NJCU, Vincent co-founded and served as assistant director of the Rising Knight Institute, coordinated the athletics academic retention program, and was sport administrator for several programs, including baseball, cross country, track and field, women’s bowling, and men’s tennis. He also managed outdoor sports operations at NJCU’s Thomas M. Gerrity Athletics Complex.

Beyond college athletics, Vincent is co-director for the United AAU basketball program, has coached multiple youth teams, and led Hudson Catholic High School’s girls’ varsity basketball program from 2013 to 2022. His coaching résumé also includes stints at Marist High School and St. Mary High School, and he has worked with the Philadelphia 76ers overnight camps since 2004, as well as the Five-Star Basketball Camps.

“I am honored that the Centenary University administration has selected me to be the next director of athletics,” Vincent said. “I am extremely excited to come back to Cyclone Nation and devote my time and energy to making the next chapter here one of the best ever written. As a Centenary student-athlete, I had an amazing experience, both on and off the court. My goal is for every student-athlete to have the opportunity to feel the same way I feel about this wonderful place I call my second home.”
