Daily road closures set for Andover-Sparta Road in Andover Township for gas line installation

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A gas main installation project is set to start along Andover-Sparta Road next week, bringing daily road closures and detours for motorists in the area, according to Andover Township police.

Work is expected to begin on or about March 17 and will start near Perona Road at the northern end of Andover-Sparta Road (County Route 517) before progressing south toward Briar Patch Road, officials said.

Police said the construction will require daily road closures between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. while crews install new gas lines along the roadway.

The project involves the installation of 6-inch and 8-inch plastic gas mains and residential gas service lines, according to a notice issued by the Sussex County Division of Engineering.

During construction hours, only local residents within the immediate work zone will be permitted through the closure, police said. Emergency vehicles, school buses, and garbage and recycling trucks will be escorted through the area when necessary.

Motorists traveling through the area will be directed to use Andover-Mohawk Road (County Route 613) as the primary detour route. The detour runs from Perona Road to Lenape Road near the three-way stop in Andover Borough, officials said. Detour signs will be posted to guide drivers.

The gas line installation is being performed by Skoda Contracting Company on behalf of Elizabethtown Gas under a Sussex County road opening permit.

County officials said construction activities will include trench excavation, gas main placement, backfilling and roadway restoration along approximately 8,000 linear feet of roadway.

The project is expected to continue through May, with Sussex County planning to pave Andover-Sparta Road after the gas line installation work is completed.

Authorities advised motorists to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the project is underway.
