Deadly crash under investigation in Somerset County

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) — A man died last week in a single-vehicle crash in Bridgewater Township, according to police.

On Thursday, April 17, at approximately 10:17 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor crash involving a car that had struck a guardrail, with the driver found unresponsive, police said.

William Sullivan, 53, of Bridgewater Township, was driving a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek on Woodlawn Avenue when he struck the curb and veered off the south side of the roadway. The vehicle then traveled approximately 80 feet west along the concrete sidewalk, struck a galvanized traffic guardrail, and came to rest on top of it, police said.

Responding officers and EMTs from Bridgewater Township Police Department initiated CPR on Sullivan. He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
