Denville Township partners with Congresswoman Sherrill in securing $1M federal grant to renovate the Union Hill 2 Room Schoolhouse

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Denville Township partners with Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, in securing a $1 million federal grant that will enable the township to renovate the Union Hill 2 Room Schoolhouse, according to Denville Township Mayor Tom Andes.

This facility will be a Civic Center where the Denville Library and Denville Recreation Department can run a multitude of programs for our children, adults and seniors as well as be available to our many youth, sport and other civic organizations.

Most of all, it preserves and modernizes the birthplace of Denville to look like it was 1912 and 1913, when community meetings were held in this 2-room schoolhouse prior to a referendum, where the people discussed the idea of the Denville and Union Hill sections of Rockaway separating to become Denville Township.

“We are grateful for the Congresswoman’s commitment to bringing federal resources back to our district which addresses our community’s needs.”  Ensuring Denville has welcoming and accessible public spaces for civic engagement is a priority of your local and federal elected representatives,” Andes said.

With this Community Project funding, Denville Township will be able to renovate the schoolhouse and create a community Civic Center for gatherings as well as serve as a future ADA-accessible polling location.

On March 6, the United State Congress voted to approve the 2024 Community Project funding Bills. The Senate approved it on March 8 with President Biden signing it on Saturday.

“I am proud to have led efforts in the House to cut through bureaucratic red tape and secure funding for Community Projects that will have a tangible impact on our District and State. I want to thank Mayor Andes and his team for their work on behalf of the residents of Denville and for submitting this project that will make our communities an even better place to live and raise a family,” Sherrill said.
