Driver arrested on drug charges after Route 22 traffic stop in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Bridgewater man was arrested for drug offenses following a motor vehicle stop on Route 22 West near Potterstown Road in Clinton Township, authorities said.

According to a July 21 news release from the Clinton Township Police Department, a patrol officer assigned to a DWI enforcement detail stopped a red Lexus on June 27, after observing motor vehicle violations. The driver was identified as Shmagi Apakidze, 47.

During the stop, K-9 Uzza and his handler conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics. Police said a search of the vehicle revealed a suboxone strip in the driver’s wallet.

Apakidze was taken to headquarters for processing and charged with possession of CDS, operating a motor vehicle while in possession of CDS, failure to keep right, and inadequate license plate illumination. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance in Hunterdon County Superior Court.
