Driver dies following crash with tractor-trailer on I-78 in Warren County, state police say

POHATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A driver died Sunday in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 78 in Warren County, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Detective Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash happened at around 5:43 p.m. on Interstate 78 eastbound at milepost 3.8 in Pohatcong Township, Lebron said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Chevrolet SUV, driven by Carmen Barretta, 64, of Schenectady, NY, was stopped on the left shoulder of I-78 eastbound and a Freightliner was traveling eastbound, Lebron said.

The Chevrolet entered the roadway and was struck by the Freightliner. The Chevrolet was then redirected to the right side of the road, where it impacted the guardrail, Lebron said.

Barretta was airlifted to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries ,Lebron said.

There were no other injuries reported, Lebron said.

The accident remains under investigation and no additional information was available, Lebron said.
