Firefighter treated for smoke inhalation after Sussex County diner fire

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation Thursday night after a diner caught fire in Sussex County.

The fire happened on Thursday at 11:56 p.m. at the Sparta Classic Diner, located at 80 Woodport Road, in Sparta Township, the township fire department said in a Facebook post.

When first responders arrived on scene, heavy fire conditions coming from the kitchen with fire going through the roof, the post said.

The fire was knocked down at 12:58 a.m. One Firefighter was treated on-scene for heat exhaustion and there were no other injuries reported, the department said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the post said.

Fire departments from Andover, Ogdensburg, Hardyston and Jefferson also responded to the scene.

A post on the diner’s Facebook page said, “Due to fire, our restaurant will remain closed temporarily. Please visit back soon for updates.”
