Gottheimer honors Korean American Day

Celebrates Korean American Community, U.S.-Korea Relationship

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined the Korean American Grassroots Conference to celebrate Korean American Day.

“On Korean American Day, we celebrate a key part of North Jersey’s strength — our incredible Korean American community — who work every day to make the Fifth District an even better place to live, raise a family, and do business,” said Gottheimer (NJ-5), an Associate Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC). “It’s a key priority of mine to work with our Korean American residents and small business owners to ensure their voices are heard here in Washington and across the country, including in North Jersey.”

In July, Gottheimer joined the Korean American Grassroots Conference to celebrate the Korean American community and the U.S.-Korea relationship.

In May, Gottheimer helped pass the bipartisan Korean American VALOR Act in the House of Representatives which will allow thousands of South Korean immigrants who served in the armed forces of the Republic of Korea alongside Americans during the Vietnam War and have since become naturalized U.S. citizens to be eligible for health care services through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Last January, Gottheimer helped introduce a bipartisan resolution calling on the United States to designate January 13, 2023 as Korean American Day.

Gottheimer has also worked with the Korean American community and business leaders from North Jersey, including representatives from KAGC, to support small businesses, lower taxes, keep communities safe, help make life more affordable, and combat hate against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.
