Gov. Sherrill joins multistate alliances on climate, public health and reproductive care

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey has joined three multistate alliances focused on climate action, public health and reproductive care, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Friday.

The state is now part of the U.S. Climate Alliance, the Governors Public Health Alliance and the Reproductive Freedom Alliance, coalitions of governors working to coordinate policy, share resources and respond to national challenges.

“I’m proud to join a strong coalition of states across the country to tackle some of the most pressing challenges we face — protecting reproductive care, strengthening public health, and accelerating our clean energy transition,” said Governor Mikie Sherrill. “As Trump creates chaos in Washington, governors are on the front lines fighting back and getting results. Working together — from policymaking and litigation to communications — these alliances will help New Jersey respond more swiftly, lower costs for families by expanding our clean energy supply and improving public health outcomes, and extend our impact far beyond state lines.”

The U.S. Climate Alliance is a bipartisan group of 24 governors committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing clean energy policies. Member states aim to cut emissions by 50% to 52% by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

“From day one, Governor Sherril has moved swiftly and decisively to cut harmful pollution and consumer costs,” said Casey Katims, U.S. Climate Alliance Executive Director. “We’re thrilled to welcome the governor’s bold leadership into the Alliance, which will strengthen our work and keep America moving forward.”

The Governors Public Health Alliance, a coalition of 15 governors, focuses on improving public health systems, strengthening emergency preparedness and coordinating responses to health threats.

“Governor Sherrill’s decision to join the Governors Public Health Alliance in her first 100 days in office reflects her clear commitment to protecting public health,” said Angela Botticella, Managing Director of the Governors Public Health Alliance. “New Jersey has long been a leader on public health, and Governor Sherrill’s participation enables the alliance to learn from New Jersey and strengthen PHA’s ability to coordinate across states to protect families, support clinicians, and respond effectively to emerging health threats.”

The Reproductive Freedom Alliance, made up of 23 governors, works to protect and expand access to reproductive health care through coordinated policy and legal strategies.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Governor Sherrill to the Reproductive Freedom Alliance,” said Christina Chang, Executive Director of the Reproductive Freedom Alliance. “New Jersey has long been a stronghold for reproductive freedom, and Governor Sherrill is committed to dismantling the barriers to care that too many people still face. As one of 23 governors standing together, she joins a powerful coalition, and her leadership will help us build stronger defenses and continue to chart the path forward for reproductive freedom nationwide.”

State officials said participation in the alliances will allow New Jersey to collaborate more closely with other states on shared priorities, including reducing costs for residents, improving health outcomes and expanding access to care.
