Hackettstown council introduces ordinance for $665K in street and walkway improvements

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – The Hackettstown Common Council has introduced a new ordinance that would allocate $665,000 for a series of important street and walkway improvements throughout the town.

The ordinance, presented at the March 13 council meeting, outlines plans to upgrade several local roads, improve sidewalks, and enhance walkways in various neighborhoods.

The majority of the funding, $380,000, is designated for the Madison Street Phase 2 improvements, which will include milling, paving, the installation of new sidewalks, and the construction of curbing. Another $135,000 is allocated for milling and paving portions of Maple Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Beatty Street, and Sharp Street. Additionally, $150,000 will be used to improve the walkways along Seymour and Arthur Terrace.

The funding for these projects will come from two primary sources: $524,321 from the town’s Capital Improvement Fund and a $140,679 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), specifically for Madison Street improvements.

The ordinance also notes that the projects are classified as long-term improvements rather than current expenses, ensuring they comply with the Local Public Bond Law. This law stipulates that the improvements must have a minimum useful life of five years.

The Hackettstown Common Council will review the ordinance for final approval at their next meeting on April 10, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Hackettstown Municipal Building, located at 215 West Stiger Street, Hackettstown.
