Heroin, drug paraphernalia found during traffic stop in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Gloucester County man faces several charges following a traffic stop in Clinton Township earlier this month, according to Clinton Township Police Chief Thomas A. DeRosa.

On February 6, police stopped a vehicle driven by James D. Leary, 37, of Turnersville, on Route 31 North near Regional Road. During the stop, K-9 Tapko detected the odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle, DeRosa said.

A subsequent probable cause search uncovered heroin, drug paraphernalia, and open containers of alcohol, DeRosa said.

Leary was arrested and charged with possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substances), possession of drug paraphernalia, open container of alcohol inside a motor vehicle, failure to signal a turn, possession of CDS while operating a motor vehicle, and consumption of alcohol inside a motor vehicle. He was then transported to the county jail.
