Hunterdon County Commissioners congratulate owner of Matt’s Red Rooster Grill on 20th anniversary

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County)- The Hunterdon County Commissioners recently presented a proclamation to restaurant owner, Matthew McPherson, in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Matt’s Red Rooster Grill, in Flemington.

McPherson has been focused on a career in the field of culinary arts since early childhood. As a junior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, he enrolled in the Polytech Culinary Arts Program, after which he began his first entrepreneurial venture, “Matt’s Real Food”, a catering company.

Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl said, “On behalf of the entire Board, I would like to extend a sincere congratulations to Mr. McPherson on celebrating 20 years of culinary excellence in Hunterdon County. Small businesses and restaurants such as, ‘Matt’s Red Rooster’ help to define local communities like ours by providing unique culinary experiences and personal customer service. We hope Matt is around for another 20 years!”

Upon graduating from Polytech, Mr. McPherson attended the Culinary Institute of America, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in restaurant management. Chef McPherson worked in many high-profile restaurants including Sea Grill in Rockefeller Center and the Relais Chateaux resort located in the Florida Keys.

Before opening Matts’ Red Rooster Grill in 2005, he also worked as the former chef du cuisine at Hamilton’s Grill Room in Lambertville.

As a local small business owner, Mr. McPherson has become a fixture in the community by supporting local organizations and charities. To date, Matt’s Red Rooster Grill has helped over 100 local charities and schools, and he currently is on the board of the Hunterdon County Polytech Arts Program.

In 2005, Mr. McPherson was recognized as one of Polytech’s most successful graduates, and he is also an active member in the Flemington Raritan Business Association and awarded Businessman of the Year in 2007.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
