Hunterdon County Commissioners honor North Hunterdon students for heroic act of kindness
FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners has recognized two North Hunterdon Regional High School students for their quick thinking and compassion after they rushed to help a classmate experiencing a medical emergency earlier this fall.
At the board’s Nov. 18 meeting, Commissioner Director John E. Lanza presented proclamations to students Norah Reeder and Dean Alvarez, commending them for their “quick thinking, compassion, and exemplary conduct” during the incident.
The students acted immediately after a fellow classmate suffered an unexpected medical issue shortly after stepping off a school bus one morning. Norah and Dean stayed with the student, offering comfort and reassurance until school staff arrived to assist.
“Norah Reeder and Dean Alvarez demonstrated maturity and compassion well beyond their years,” Lanza said. “Their willingness to help a fellow student in distress serves as a powerful reminder of the effect simple acts of kindness can have. The Board is proud to recognize their integrity, responsible decision-making, and outstanding citizenship.”
County officials said the students’ calmness, empathy and willingness to step forward in a moment of uncertainty reflect the highest values of the Hunterdon County community.
The proclamations issued by the board highlight Norah and Dean’s actions as models of the county’s core principles: empathy, responsibility and community leadership.
