Hunterdon County Commissioners honor retirees

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Hunterdon County Commissioners Tuesday recognized several up-and-coming retirees for their many years of dedication and hard work within their respective positions of public service.

“On behalf of myself and the entire Commissioner BoardI would like to thank each retiree here tonight for their leadership, commitment, and all the individual contributions they have made over the years in their respective departments. County employees are among our greatest assets, and we recognize the impact they have on carrying out the delivery of important government services,” Commissioner Director Zach Rich said.

Retirees that were honored include:

  • Eleanor Langeveld, retiring from the county after 25 years of outstanding service, began her career in September of 1998 as a Library Assistant and joined the Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veteran Services as the Senior Health & Fitness Program coordinator in 2005.
  • Lorraine Haley began her 12-year career with Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veteran Services as a Keyboarding Clerk 1 and was promoted to Keyboarding Clerk 3 in 2020. Ms. Haley was an active member of the Employee Appreciation Committee since 2016 and helped plan various events for county staff.
  • Jane Duke started her career with the county in September 2007, as a Housing Assistance Technician in the Division of Housing and fostered relationships with both landlords and HUD program participants for many years.
  • Robby Bennett began working for the county on July 29, 1985, with the Divisions of Roads, Bridges and Engineering and held various job titles, with his final appointment in June 2004 as Assistant Superintendent of Bridges. Mr. Bennett is a talented masonry, and his work is displayed in many stone arches and masonry walls throughout the county.
  • Susan J. Hoffman retires as the longest serving Surrogate in Hunterdon County and the longest serving Surrogate in New Jersey. Ms. Hoffman was appointed on December 1, 1982, to Surrogate, by then Governor Thomas Kean, and has served eight consecutive terms of office for a period of five years each.

Jay Edwards

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
