Hunterdon County graduate honored for donating graduation money to veterans
FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 2 presented a formal proclamation to Alesiandra Nikezi, an East Amwell Middle School graduate, in recognition of her extraordinary act of generosity and patriotism.
Nikezi chose to donate her personal graduation gift money to the Flemington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7856, supporting local veterans and honoring those who have served the nation. Officials said her decision demonstrates a deep respect for service and sacrifice, as well as a strong sense of civic duty beyond her years.
“Alesiandra’s generosity is a powerful reminder that leadership and compassion are not defined by age,” said Commissioner Director John E. Lanza. “Her thoughtful support of our veterans is not only commendable but truly inspiring – and speaks volumes about her character and the values she represents. Young leaders like Alesiandra give us hope for the future.”
The proclamation highlighted Nikezi’s contribution to the veteran community and underscored the importance of encouraging civic-mindedness and compassion among local youth.
Nikezi told the commissioners that her choice was motivated by gratitude. “I chose to give my eighth-grade graduation money that was gifted to me, to our veterans as my way of saying ‘thank you’ for the sacrifices they had made for our country,” she said. “I don’t believe enough people, or at least young people, realize how much good that they have done for us Americans. They truly are heroes, and I wanted to recognize them for their service.”
