Hunterdon County honors Reading-Fleming students for comfort bear donation program

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County officials recognized students from Reading-Fleming Intermediate School for their community service efforts during a recent Board of County Commissioners meeting.

At the March 3 meeting, Commissioner Director John E. Lanza and Commissioner Susan J. Soloway presented a proclamation honoring the school’s Student Council for partnering with the Bearing Hope Foundation through its “With Bears We Care” program.

As part of the initiative, students — along with members of the school’s Spirit Club and other volunteers — assembled and packaged 200 comfort teddy bears, bracelets and cards for donation to the Capital Health Pediatric Emergency Department. The items are intended to provide reassurance and comfort to children receiving medical care.

“The Reading-Fleming Intermediate School Student Council has shown tremendous generosity and heart through this effort,” Lanza said in a statement. “Their partnership with the Bearing Hope Foundation will help bring comfort to young patients and their families, and we are proud to recognize these students for the kindness and leadership they have displayed.”

Soloway said the effort reflects the compassion and community spirit of local students.

“It is inspiring to see young people step forward to help others in such a thoughtful way,” she said. “These students have demonstrated compassion and a genuine desire to lift the spirits of children who may be going through a difficult time.”

County officials said the project highlighted the Student Council’s commitment to service and demonstrated how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference for others.

The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners congratulated the students and thanked them for setting an example of community service in the county.
