FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – SAFE in Hunterdon hosted a candlelight vigil last week entitled “A Light in the Darkness,” an annual community event honoring victims of domestic violence and supporting survivors.

The vigil took place on the steps of the Hunterdon County Justice Center in Flemington and featured heartfelt speeches from survivors, advocates, and community leaders, followed by a moment of silence to honor the victims.

County officials in attendance included Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl, Deputy Director Susan Soloway, Commissioner John Lanza, County Clerk Mary Melfi, Sheriff Fred Brown, and Prosecutor Renée Robeson. Various staff members and volunteers from SAFE in Hunterdon were also present.

“Domestic violence is a serious crime that affects people of all races, ages, genders, and income levels. It is a pervasive issue that impacts the health and well-being of individuals and families in our community. Efforts to raise awareness about domestic violence, like tonight’s vigil, provide an opportunity for communities to unite in their efforts to support survivors and advocate for policies and programs that prevent domestic violence,” Soloway said.

SAFE in Hunterdon is a leading non-profit organization in the county committed to empowering survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through comprehensive support services, advocacy, and community education.
