Hunterdon Sailing Club ready to sail into 2025

CLINTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Are you interested in learning how to sail, or are you already an experienced sailor looking to join a local, active club with weekly regattas?

On Sunday, March 23, at 12:00 p.m., you can join current members and leadership to learn more about the Hunterdon Sailing Club (HSC).

The meeting will take place at Riley & Jake’s, in the lower level, located at 1831 State Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809, (908) 638-6983. Refreshments will be available, and attendees are responsible for their own bill.

HSC is a club dedicated to fostering a community of sailors on the lake and promoting sailing, the greenest sport in the world. Entirely run by volunteers, the club organizes an entire season of events and offers introductory sailing lessons for adults.

Sailing begins in April, with Spruce Run State Park and Reservoir serving as HSC’s home base. Located just five minutes off Route 31 in Clinton, NJ, Spruce Run is where most of the sailing activities will take place. The State of New Jersey offers boat storage spaces where members can dry-dock boats from March through October for a small fee.

Regattas (sailboat races) are held every Sunday afternoon, weather permitting, until mid-October. Wednesday twilight Sunfish (a small, popular sailboat) races start in the last week of April and run until mid-September, with slight adjustments for the summer. Learn-to-sail classes are available in June and July.

Club-owned Sunfish sailboats are available to members at club-sanctioned events (Wednesday and Sunday regattas) and other special events and races throughout the season. The regattas follow United States Sailing Association (USSA) rules and help sailors sharpen their skills in friendly competition. Additional events range from the Commodore’s Cup to the fun Ladies’ Fleet Spruce Run-Around.

Club members support each other and often lend a hand, whether it’s rigging a boat, tying a loose line, or offering sailing tips. The club welcomes sailors of all ages and skill levels. While Spruce Run is the primary sailing location, each outing offers a unique experience with changing wind conditions, water depth, and weather, making every sailing adventure different.

As HSC prepares for the 2025 season, we look forward to continuing the tradition of offering a fun, affordable way to learn sailing, improve skills, and most importantly, enjoy the thrill of sailing in a beautiful, natural setting.
