I-287 northbound lane closures scheduled Friday night in Hanover, Morris Township
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Motorists traveling on Interstate 287 northbound in Hanover and Morris Township should expect overnight lane closures Friday as work continues on a bridge replacement project, the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, through 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, two northbound lanes will be closed between mileposts 37.2 and 37.6 beneath the Hanover Avenue Bridge. At least two lanes will remain open throughout the work.
The overnight closures will allow crews to restripe the roadway, install construction barriers, shift traffic to the left and implement a long-term closure of the right shoulder beneath the bridge.
By 9 a.m. Saturday, all northbound travel lanes are expected to reopen with traffic shifted toward the median. The right shoulder will remain closed through November 2027 while crews complete bridge abutment repairs and other improvements.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays while traveling through the work zone.
The work is part of a $17.5 million federally funded project to replace the concrete bridge deck on the Hanover Avenue (County Route 650) bridge over I-287. The project also includes drainage, lighting, signage and fencing improvements, as well as new sidewalks and upgraded curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028.
