Investigation underway after swimmer dies in Morris County pond

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A swimmer died Saturday evening after struggling in Jones Pond in Morris Township, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities said a witness called 911 at approximately 6:28 p.m. on July 4 after seeing an unidentified adult man enter Jones Pond and struggle to swim.

First responders responded to the scene and searched the pond before locating the man submerged in the water. He was recovered from the pond, authorities said.

The man’s identity has not been released.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.

Authorities said no foul play is suspected.

The incident remains under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Morris Township Police Department.
