Lake Hopatcong Foundation marks 10th annual native plant sale
LANDING, N.J. (Morris County) — The Lake Hopatcong Foundation is marking the 10th year of its annual native plant sale this spring, offering a wide selection of plants aimed at supporting local ecosystems.
The sale will feature more than 45 varieties of plants native to New Jersey, suited for a range of garden and landscape settings. Online ordering will be available from April 24 through April 30, with plant pickup scheduled for May 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at the foundation’s headquarters on Landing Road.
“Our native plant sale is designed to make it easier for people to choose plants that work with nature, not against it,” said Lake Hopatcong Foundation Board Chair Marty Kane. “Each year, we aim to offer an interesting mix of species that support pollinators and fit a variety of garden conditions. Plus, they really are a lot of fun to grow!”
Officials said native plants are well adapted to local conditions and typically require less water, fertilizer and maintenance once established. They also provide food and habitat for birds, bees, butterflies and other pollinators, which are critical to maintaining healthy ecosystems.
“Planting native species is a practical step people can take to support the health of Lake Hopatcong and the surrounding watershed,” said Communications Director Holly Odgers. “It’s a simple way to contribute to cleaner water, stronger habitats, and a more resilient local environment.”
In addition to supporting wildlife, native plants can help stabilize soil and absorb stormwater, improving the health of nearby waterways, officials said.
Organizers noted that quantities are limited and encouraged early ordering. More information and ordering details are available online.
